Good and Bad Design

Good and Bad Design

Typographic design

This first one is an obvious one. This comic sans was initially made for comic books and graphic novels where it belongs, but out of that context it looks so dreadful now that people use it for birthday invitations, signs and menus. It's very blunt and doesn't travel across the page very well in my opinion.

This one is a good example of bad spacing which happens a lot making you look twice, trying to figure out what it says. This can be a really dangerous design flaw especially in this case.

This type is much better then the others as it is clear and concise. It easily translate what it is and the font isn't just another re-used word typeface.

This one is rather. similar to the last one however in this one it uses several different fonts in the one logo. This works as they're all laid out quite nicely together and presented very professionally.

Here is an example of a really bad logo. They have used the font 'papyrus' which is quite painful to look at and can also be found on the Avatar films logo. It's also quite ironic as there is also no attention to detail in this logo.

This is another poorly designed logo, from the basic font and the intense colours. This does not look like the kind of place I want to send my three children.

This design is a really simple yet effective one. The colours are really gentle and the whole thing is easy on the eyes. The shapes and the type all translate very clearly to me and that's what a good logo is to me.

This one is very similar to the previous one with simple colours and a clear message, portraying two subjects in one logo.

This is a poor example of editorial design. The reason I have said this is because it is laid out badly and the it seems like there are two articles squeezed into one page which seems rushed to me.

This is another poor example of editorial design. In this one I don't know where to start reading and where to stop. Having it laid out like a scrapbook really isn't a good look as it seems like a 12 year old has designed it, unless that's who its aims at but I reckon they'll even have the sense not to read this.

Here is a great example of good editorial design. This is very clean and well laid out. You can tell it's followed strict guideline and grids which is what all good designs will have done and also the colours are all well selected for easy viewing. The whole thing is just very aesthetically pleasing.

This cover is another good example as it easily portrays the whole article and what its about at first glance. It has involved type and photography into one to combine a single piece of satisfying design.
